Hacienda La Esmeralda - Montana Enero
Panama

Located in the Bouquet region of Panama, Hacienda La Esmeralda is a multiple award-winning coffee farm run by the Peterson family that has consistently achieved record breaking prices at auction. The whole family is involved in production and pride themselves on absolute consistency and excellence in preparation, which is perhaps why they grow the finest Geisha in the world.

The estate is based in the province of Chiriqui in South-West Panama. This area has a mountainous topography, producing various micro climates which have a distinct influence on the coffee beans profile. The fairly cool weather and recurrent mists slows down the ripening of the coffee cherries, yielding a denser and more flavourful bean.

The Montana Enero Washed is a part of the Hacienda La Esmeralda Special Reserve coffees, an award-winning coffee collection that has garnered continuous international prizes since it was first established 15 years ago. These coffees are sold exclusively by auction only once a year, in small micro-lots and regularly achieve some of the highest prices in the world. This Montana Enero micro-lot comes from a small section of the Canas Verdes Farm, grown at over 1800 meters in the rich volcanic soils of Boquete where 16 year old trees were gently watered throughout the growing season with cool mists from both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

This exceptional Geisha coffee was harvested on 1st February 2020, fully washed, fermented with special yeast for 72 hours and then finally sun dried on raised beds for 10 days. We are confident you will agree, this is one of the finest geishas Sea Island has ever offered.

Tasting notes; elegant and complex cup with notes of jasmine, brilliant stone fruits and bergamot.
