Hacienda La Esmeralda - Hartmann Estate
Panama Geisha

These three estates exemplify the best of the famous Panamanaian geisha coffees: Hacienda La Esmeralda (Grand Reserve), Hartmann Estate and Hacienda La Esmeralda (Private Collection).

Hacienda La Esmeralda:

Located in the Boquete region of Panama, Hacienda La Esmeralda is a multiple award-winning coffee farm run by the Peterson family that has consistently achieved record-breaking prices at auction. The whole family is involved in production and prides themselves on absolute consistency and excellence in preparation, which is perhaps why they grow the finest Geisha in the world.

The estate is based in the province of Chiriqui in South-West Panama. This area has a mountainous topography, producing various microclimates which have a distinct influence on the coffee beans profile. The fairly cool weather and recurrent mists slow down the ripening of the coffee cherries, yielding a denser and more flavourful bean.

Private Collection:

Hacienda La Esmeralda's primary offering - Private Collection coffee is 100% Geisha grown above 1,500 meters, yielding a cup notable for high citric acidity, with a bold and juicy body.

Grand Reserve:

Hacienda La Esmeralda Grand Reserve is one of the world’s most famous coffees, renowned for achieving record-breaking prices and winning the Best of Panama award several times. Grown at approximately 1,850 meters above sea level, these beans possess extremely complex aromatics and flavours, including jasmine and stone fruit, brilliant and clear acidity, with bergamot notes in the cup.

Hartmann Estate:

The family-owned and operated Hartmann Estate is based in the Santa Clara region of Panama, which has a micro-climate that is ideal for keeping the coffee cherries cool during summer. Using modern eco-friendly and natural processing methods, the lush and green Hartmann estate puts an emphasis on sustainable farming practices. Mild temperatures all year round combined with the nutrient-rich volcanic soil of the region help to create these very special gourmet coffees.

Geisha:

Grown at 1500 metres, this speciality coffee is dried on raised beds and honey processed, making for a more complex cup.

Yields a classic Panamanian Geisha profile - a smooth body, honey and jasmine aroma and a lingering sweet aftertaste.
