Finca La Corcovada
Canary Islands

Coffee was first introduced to the Canary Islands back in 1788 when the first coffee trees arrived in the ‘La Orotava Acclimatization Garden’ in Tenerife. The garden was built by King Carlos III of Spain to take advantage of the Canary Islands’ warm climate to grow exotic plants and seeds from America and Asia. Today, coffee is still produced in extremely small amounts on the islands of Tenerife, La Palma, El Hierro, and Gran Canaria by family run estates. Very little coffee leaves the islands, with most of it consumed by the producing families or sold to local roasters and coffee shops.

Located in the Valley of Agaete on the island of Gran Canaria, the Finca La Corcovada farm, owned by Juan Godoy, is home to many exotic fruit trees like mangos, oranges, and papayas, which this shade-grown coffee grows amongst. The Valley of Agaete is seen as the traditional home of coffee on the Canary Islands and is fortunate to enjoy an unusually ideal coffee-growing climate as a result of converging trade winds from both the dry Saharan winds and those generated by the Azores anticyclone.

This Arabica Typica coffee is processed using the ‘natural’ method in which the cherry is sun-dried without removing the pulp, which enhances the fruity tones and results in a unique coffee with a subtle acidity, delicate body, mild aroma, and layers of fruit and dried florals.
