Novas Estate
Dominican Republic

Coffee was first introduced to the Dominican Republic in 1715 and has become a principal crop of small scale and family farmers. Over the years, coffee has become very prevalent in Dominican culture - an essential part of Dominican’s daily life and society, and so most of the coffee produced is consumed on the island. Less than 20% of Dominican coffee is exported, a testament to their strong domestic coffee culture and love for the drink.

Barahona is widely considered the premier coffee growing region in the Dominican Republic due to its high altitude, exceptionally fertile soil, and temperate weather, allowing the coffee cherries to ripen slowly. Barahona coffee is known for its rich flavour, heavy body, and high acidity.

Wasil Novas, the owner of Novas Estate, is the 3rd generation of his family to farm coffee in the famed Barahona region. This family run farm is situated at 1300 meters above sea level and produces only the finest Arabica Typica coffee beans. This ‘Type AA’ coffee, the highest grade available, is the very best of the Novas’ family fully-washed Arabica production.

The cup is characterised by a full body and a sweet, fruity acidity. A very pleasant and easy to drink coffee, with lovely notes of milk chocolate, vanilla, and sugar cane, and a long finish reminiscent of almond and caramel.
