The 150 year old Balmaadi Estate in the Nilgiris District of Tamil Nadu, India is certified as organic, eco-friendly and socially responsible by the Institute for Marketecology (IMO). The boundaries of this high altitude (4,000 to 6,000 ft above sea level) estate provide a refuge for the incredibly varied wild life of Nilgiris, including panthers, elephants and the Kopi Luwak (civet cat) whose foraged droppings are collected from the surrounding forest.
These organic, high altitude Kopi Luwak coffee beans are particularly dense, yielding a beautifully dark and rich cup with overtones of caramel and citrus.
This extraordinarily high quality Kopi Luwak is certified as foraged solely from civet cats living in the wild by the Indonesian Government’s Department of Agriculture in Bali.
This coffee is classically dark, rich and smooth with natural sweetness and no bitter aftertaste.
In 2013, Sea Island Coffee staff began work in Sumatra to develop an independent accredited certification standard for wild, ethically-sourced Civet Coffee in consultation with leading proponents of animal welfare, the World Animal Protection organization and food-certification experts.
Foraged in the Gayo Highlands of northern Sumatra, this is a wonderfully balanced, velvety coffee with caramel sweetness, hazelnut and dark cocoa tones, and subtle acidity.
