Initially very bright, intense, and lively - bursting with green apple acidity. Following that, a deep and rich aroma of exotic fruits and a unique, sweet-sour taste reminiscent of tamarind, with a smooth body and long aftertaste.

Region: Biolley district, Southern Costa Rica
Estate: Coffea Diversa
Varietal: Venecia
Processing Method: Honey
Drying Method: Sun-dried on raised beds
Elevation: 1250 - 1380 masl
Roast: Medium
The origin of this variety is somewhat of a mystery. It first showed up in the tiny village of Venecia (hence its name) in Costa Rica, close to the border of Nicaragua - a region that is not known at all for coffee production.
Up to now, nobody is really sure about its genetic origin, though it is possibly a natural mutation of the Caturra or Typica varietals. Despite continued testing, nobody can be sure where this elusive Arabica strain came from, making it an exciting rarity among coffee fans.
The Coffea Diversa estate is home to the largest private coffee varietal collection in the world, with about 200 botanical coffee varieties & cultivars. Gonzalo Hernandez, the owner of Coffea Diversa and one of the world's leading specialists on coffee varietals, describes the estate not as a coffee farm, but a 'coffee garden' where rare and hard to grow varietals thrive.
Located in one of the most remote areas of Costa Rica in the Biolley District, coffee beans in the Coffea Diversa garden grow in the confluence of both the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean climates, a rare phenomenon that has a superb effect on the taste profile of its coffees.
